- Part of the contemporary new Dublin 4 hotel experience.
- Friendly staff; spacious bedrooms; style & comfort.
- Unique Gastro Bar dining experience.
Part of the D4hotels group, the Ballsbridge Inn and Towers are around the corner from the Ballsbridge Court, previously reviewed by Hotel Reviews Ireland. They enjoy the same great location and all share the same website where the guest can choose where they would like to stay, and if they would like to upgrade to a suite.
We had heard the concept likened to a “no frills” hotel experience, but having visited the hotels we felt it was somewhat better that! The Inn and Towers are situated just around the corner from the Court, and are well remembered as a popular spot for politicians and journalists back in the 80s and 90s. Indeed I was there myself! It is quite different now, and yet in many ways it is the same. For local people it is a joy to see the hotel open again, the lights on, and a place to meet, eat and to stay in Ballsbridge.
ACCOMMODATION AT BALLSBRIDGE INN AND TOWERS.
Our room was actually in the Towers, but the journey from Inn to Towers is quite seamless, so it not strikingly evident which part you are in except when booking the rate will be higher for a larger room. We were on the third floor and our room was bright, spacious and warm. It was a twin room with really comfortable beds, a workspace with complementary broadband access, a flat screen television, a spacious bathroom and a separate cloakroom area with ironing board and iron. We were warm, comfortable and cosy and were happy to settle in for the afternoon. With one of us on the laptop and the other watching television, we passed a couple of hours before reading the papers, enjoying a relaxing bath and getting ready for our evening meal.DINING AT THE INN AND TOWERS
We had dinner at The Dubliner Pub, which is more a gastro-pub than a restaurant. This is run by the Charlie Chawke group – www.chawkepubgroup.ie We were delighted to see it was not just about the usual pub-grub, but the menu contained some very good dishes that would be much higher priced in a fine dining restaurant. I opted for Pan Fried Sea Bass which was served over Chilli Stir fried Greens. Our other main course was Char-grilled Fillet Steak served with home cut fries. Other choices included Thai Red Curry; Pan-Fried Lamb Cutlets; Roast Chicken topped with Bacon, Braised Beef & Vegetable Guinness Stew. We also enjoyed a lovely starter that we picked from the lunch menu which they made up for us, a sweet potato & feta cheese salad with beetroot. We could have had homemade chowder, vegetable tempura, chicken liver pate or chicken kebabs. One of us – the chocaholic – enjoyed a rich Death by Chocolate with ice-cream, and all was accompanied with a lovely bottle of Chablis. Indeed while there is a “pub buzz” and no white table clothes, the food was very good. We had a lovely waitress from Mongolia who looked after us very well and brought us some warm home-made bread as she said she could see we were quite serious about our food!
Next morning my friend was catching an early DART into the city centre and enjoyed a quick smoothie and muffin at Café Java in the hotel lobby, which opens at 7am. Meanwhile, The Dubliner opened at 7.30 and when I went down a couple of hours later I enjoyed a delicious Eggs Benedict with tea and toast.
The proximity of this hotel to all that both the city centre and South Dublin has to offer is just one thing that makes it a great hotel location. “A4dable” luxury, as they so aptly call it, is another.
